Saturday afternoon my former mother-in-law brought over these gorgeous dried hydrangeas for me! The are so beautiful! (thank you Judy!) Her hydrangea bush is taller than the 6' fence! It's amazing that all these different colors were from the same plant! I'll show you later in the week what I did with these.
I didn't work on my chairs as I had planned and this is why...
Friday during my lunch hour I ran over to the thrift store by my work and found this cabinet. I could picture it painted white with some rose appliques added. I stood there for awhile staring at it wondering were I could possibly fit it in my already over-crowded apartment. Finally I thought of my bedroom...I could put it in the corner where I have my old screen door! I could stack all my antique linen and lace on the shelves! It would be beautiful and it was only $50.00! I bought it! I told the guy I could fit it in my car, he asked me what kind of car I had and I told him a Camero. He looked at me like I was crazy! He wheeled it out to my car and I put the back seats down and we slid it right in! It fit but I had to tie the hatchback down because it wouldn't close. I'm always prepared with rope and bungees in my trunk! This weekend I painted it and yesterday Lauren and I moved it into the house. It's not complete because I'm still waiting for the appliques that I ordered online but I'll show you later in the week were I ended up putting it after all...and it's not in my bedroom! It looks so much better now than it does in this photo!
Can't wait to see! Whenever I see that you're off on another project...I am there!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
It looks pretty darn good in the before pic -- I can't wait to see the after! Love those hydrangeas, too! Sounds like you had a much better weekend than I did. :)
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Mary
Cindy, that is a great deal and I can't wait to see what you did to it. I love hydranges also. I have dried them before and boy they are so pretty on the table.
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait to see it finished!
ReplyDeleteWay Cute! I love those hydrangea.
ReplyDeleteI'm anxious to see how you make the cabinet better. But you always do!
~~Liz~~
Well this a gotta see. I can't imagine where else you have room for it. Let me think, is it by the stairs ? or the top of the stairs ?. Oh, I give up.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'll have to check back to see.
Ciao
Wow....what a sweet former mother in law...the hydranges are beautiful.....I can't wait to see what you did with your latest project........I hope the mail comes quickly!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful, I can't wait to see it!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy...your Hydrangeas look so pretty!! Mine didn't come out quite so nice so I don't know if I harvested them too early or too late!! Oh well....
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Robin
That was the buy of the decade! I can't wait to see what you do with it. I LOVED the appliques you put on your chairs.
ReplyDeleteGreat find!...and when you win the HGTV house...space will not be an issue, so you were wise to snap this up...LOL ;-) Bo
ReplyDelete$50? Where do you find these bargains? Also, ask your M-I-L how she dried the flowers. Mine always end up looking quite dead!! Joanne ~~ glamourgirljoanne@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you do with your hydrangeas and the cabinet - love the detail of the cabinet. What a lucky find!

ReplyDeleteHi Cindy
ReplyDeleteVery excited to see what you did with this, you talented lady!!
Am so anxious to see the finished piece. Hydrangeas is (are?) one of my new favorite flowers. I'm amazed at how long the flowers last, and they are beautiful dried.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the hydrangeas and cabinet.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh those of the prettiest hydrangeas I have seen.... those colors are just stunning.... the cabinet will be perfect for your room.... can't wait to see...

The hydrangeas are gorgeous.
This is not fair Cindy!
ReplyDeleteWe shop the same stores!! However, I did buy an antique mirror this weekend for $16 - it had a minor chip on the frame. No problem, a little bit of putty & paint will fix my problem....that's whenever I get the time. Oh, the annual citywide garage sale is October 11.
yea!! What a great find! and so inexpensive...
ReplyDeleteWell, I have absolutely no doubt in my mind the cabinet is going to look spectacular after you get finished with it! I'm anxiously awaiting the big reveal.
ReplyDeleteSo sweet of your MIL to bring all those hydrangeas. They are stunning in a big bunch like that. Oddly enough, I can't ever recall seeing any hydrangeas growing where I live. Maybe they don't do well in FL. (???)
I can't wait to see the transformation!! You always get such awesome deals at the thrift store!!! I've been lucky with mirrors but not with furniture....yet!!
ReplyDeleteI also wanted to thank you for the help you gave me with my questions about paint and stripping furniture. I spent $113 on all the stuff to complete the project. I'm very nervous about doing it because of all the warning on the stripping product....even though I got the "green" spray gel product. I'm nervous about getting it on my skin and even more about the smell.
Anyway, I look forward to seeing the finished product on your new beautiful piece of furniture!! I know it will look fabulous!!
Thanks so much!!

ReplyDeleteWow, what a beautiful tablescape. Those hydrangeas are so gorgeous. Wow. I would wrestle someone to get a hydrangea plant (interesting picture that would post!) but we live in the high altitude (frost zone). Those colors match your beautiful decor. What a wonderful ex MIL.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Debbie
It looks pretty good right now, but I agree with you. It will look even better once it's painted white. You shop just like I do. I'm always imagining what things will look like painted white. It drives my husband nuts!
ReplyDeleteI can just imagine how lovely this will look filled with your linens and lace. It has great lines, and we all know the magic you work with a paint brush!
ReplyDeleteawesome cabinet--AND ONLY $50.00, CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE FINISHED PRODUCT. LOVE THE HYDRANGEAS
ReplyDeleteSUE
Oh no - later in the week?? I'm already dying to see it all fixed up, so I hope those appliques make it soon!
ReplyDeleteI got that same "are you crazy lady?" look when I backed my Honda up to pick up my pie safe at the flea market - but I had room to spare. What do men know about such things anyway?
Oh my those hydrangeas are exquisite. I grew green hydrangeas last year and meant to do so this year just to have dried ones. Anxious to see what you do with both the dried flowers and that gorgeous piece of furniture.
ReplyDeleteHurry!

ReplyDeleteReally, when DO you sleep? I'm tired just reading your blog most of the time!!!
ReplyDeleteCindy, It will be beautiful I am sure. I have antique amoire that I painted a soft french blue then rubbed it with a cream white. It houses my collection of blue and white china. That is why you have become my favorite blog, you like blue as much as I do. I don't see many that are in the blue, don't get me wrong, I like pink, too but blue is my favorite. Can't wait to see how your armoire turns out and the price was perfect!!
ReplyDeleteYou find the best things! That cabinet is going to be gorgeous, I can just tell! I can't wait to see where you put it and how you finished it. :) The hydrangeas are absolutely lovely. I have GOT to put some in our yard... I have been saying this for weeks now, I guess it's time....
ReplyDeleteI am so excited to see how it looks all finished! Cindy, my sister and I started our own blog just a few days ago. You were definetly one of our biggest inspirations in starting it and would love it if you and anybody else who wants to go visit it. We will post pictures our our projects, shabby chic stuff around the house and much more. We are begginers at blogging so please excuse anything that seems odd :)

Hello,
ReplyDeleteNice find at the thrift store :)
I have a hydrangea bush and was wondering, how do you dry them, just cut them and let nature do it?
Can't wait to see the finished project :)
Warmly, Deb
Wow! Another cabinet and what a bargain. It looks great in the before pic.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see where you put it.
I thought the bedroom idea sounded great.
~elaine~
Wherever you put it will be beautiful. You have such a knack for that. I'm just amazed at how quickly you finish projects. You buy something and you get right to it. I wish I was like that. I so admire that in you and I wish it would rub off on me. Anxious to see everything when complete!!
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy~
ReplyDeleteThat is such a beautiful cabinet! It will look so amazing painted white~ I am excited to see it when you're done!
Oh, and I love the dried hydrangeas! One time I was at a garage sale, and a lady was selling some vases. They had some hydrangeas inside of them, and I just wanted those! She wanted me to pay for them, and I was so thankful for them that I even gave
her a little more than she'd asked! :) They dried beautifully!
Enjoy your cabinet AND your hydrangeas! :)
You always find the best items! I can't wait to see it when it's done. I wanted to invite you take part in an event that I'm hosting September 4-7 called "Show Us Your Pretty Pumpkin."

ReplyDeleteOh Cindy, I'm sure what ever you do to this beautiful piece will only enhance its curvy lovelyness. Can't wait to see the finished product and how you incorporate it into your precious home.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sue
Oh! Cindy, I can't wait!!!! give us a sneak peek!!
ReplyDeleteMaria
I have to laugh when I think of how you put that in your car. I remember a gal coming to my shop in a little VW bug and buying a piece of furniture like that. I looked at her like she was crazy too. But she just put the top down and we slid it in the back.
ReplyDeleteI cracked up as she drove off. Just goes to show...where there is a will there is a way.
Becky
Tout est merveilleux, d'une grande poésie.
ReplyDeleteMarie-Ange
Oh Cindy, Can't wait to see the After photo. I can "see" it already and know it will be amazing.
