I Painted the Chandelier!

Remember the chandelier I got on Craigslist that I said I wasn't going to paint? Click here if you don't.  I rewired it to make it a plug-in and hung it in my bedroom.  I lived with it for awhile and decided I didn't like the brass color in my room...at all! So I painted it with RustOleum spray paint in "Heirloom White" (first I used a white spray primer).  I LOVE it now.  I bought a dimmer switch that you plug the chandelier into and then plug the dimmer into the wall so I can keep it nice and low or bright, bright, bright!
I hung it over the end of my dresser as you can see in the photo above.  (You can click on any photo to enlarge it)
Okay, I cannot add another thing to my bedroom.  As I'm looking at these photos I think I have too much clutter.  I think I better start pulling a little back in here!
There's that chair that still waiting for the makeover!!!!  Maybe I'll work on that today!
My week off is almost over and although I didn't get much done it was a wonderful break!  The weather could not have been any better.  It's been right around 80 degrees all week.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Hi Cindy! I love that you painted the chandelier white. It was really pretty in brass but the sparkle seems so much brighter in white. Loved how you put it on a dimmer and I also love the little "scrunchie" thing you put over your cord. Beautiful! Enjoy your new "toy" and have a great weekend :) ~ xoxo ~ Joy

  7. Hi Cindy,
The chandelier is SO beautiful in your room! I think it's perfect tucked in beside your dresser like that, and I too love the scrunchie cord cover on it!

Your room is so sweet, I love the hankerchiefs you repurposed into a window valance! You have such a gift for making things beautiful! I always love seeing what you do! :)

Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

  8. Cindy...I love the painted chandelier!!! It's gorgeous!

Where did you find the dimmer that plugs into the wall? I have a chandelier that I just "found" yesterday and will be plugging into a wall in my Living Room (after the make-over) and a dimmer would be wonderful!!

When you paint your furniture, do you use spray paint? a sprayer? Everything I've seen of yours, turns out beautifully...and I'm looking for "tips", as I have some items I will be painting (see my "Calling all Furniture Painters" post from yesterday).

    Thanks...

    ~Blessings,

  13. Cindy, do not apologize for loving beautiful things sweetie!!! Your room is absolutely gorgeous and magazine worthy! And when I look at a gorgeous home in a magazine, I love for it to be filled to the brim with trinkets and treasures for my eyes to discover. What a beautiful makeover of the chandelier! What's even better is that you hung in in an unexpected place ~ you are such an inspiration, xxoo, Dawn

  19. Cindy, Your bedroom is gorgeous. I love the way you are using that door to display treasures. I'm sure my mom had that same bedroom set. We gave it to my brother and bought her a white shabby chic set. We could have just painted it!

  22. I love your bedroom and the chandelier in white...do you do your own rewiring as well? I like that you had curtains hung on your closet doors...how pretty was that to dress it up as well. Your home is to die for and you should be very proud of yourself! I also love the old door!

  27. Somehow I just knew that chandelier was going to be white. You didn't let me down. I love it.

I have one in my storage that I've been wanting to get hung up in my bedroom but I think I like the idea of hanging it up like you did rather then getting it put in by cutting a whole and rewiring the whole room.

Maybe you could give us a lesson on how to rewire a chandelier. I know I would love it and it sounds like several others would too.

    Hugs,
    Joanne

  30. It turned out so pretty! I like the door you placed behind your chair in the corner. The linens look so pretty displayed on it. I enlarged that picture and noticed an M and an L among the monograms, so I would feel right at home sinking into that chair to read a magazine!

  47. I didn't realize that it was possible to rewire a chandelier to plug it in... I'll be looking for one. How did you hide the cord? I see that you put the scrunchie over part of the wire, but it seems to me that there has to be a cord somewhere that goes to the outlet. Your room is so beautiful...I've got to study every detail.

  50. I turned out terrific! I just love heirloom white too, but I have had so much trouble finding it around here. I bought the last three cans at Meijers, but they didn't have it at Lowe's or at Wal Mart. It's the perfect soft cottage white.

Don't know if I never noticed that door with the panes, but it is beautiful with your handkerchiefs and lace and other pretty things draped over it!

  51. Your chandalier looks absolutely wonderful, you did a great job...as usual. I would like to know how on earth you get things done so fast! I have 2 toddlers and I'm lucky to get my dishes done every single day and here you are knocking out projects in a few days! You are an amazing and inspiring woman!! I'm slowly getting my shabby house together but it's going to take me years to complete at this rate. I need some of your time and energy!! :o)

  52. Okay, when you're ready to start thinning out your bedroom you can send the birdhouse, side table lamps and wall plates my way. I'd choose more but with the mailing costs and all, thought I'd go easy on you. LOL.

Love the chandy - I agree, it looks much better white!

  59. What a beautiful bedroom!

I want a beautiful chandelier for my kitchen and I have decided that I am going to have to get on at a garage sale or craiglist and redo it to get what I want. What you did with yours is just perfect for your room and it could not be more beautiful! Have a great weekend!

  61. Cindy, I have to say that when you said you planned to keep the original finish on the chandelier, I was surprised. And I'm not the least bit surprised it ended up white afterall! :) I do like it better. It turned out beautiful...so elegant. And I love where you decided to hang it!

After our chandelier cleaning discussion on an earlier post, I decided to try one of those spray-on,no wiping necessary, chandy cleaners. I was very skeptical how well it would clean the crystal, especially without wiping, but it actually does a pretty good job! Lay a towel or newspapers underneath, squirt the cleaner on and just let it drip dry. Voila! Sparkly crystal again! I had to do mine twice because I had let it go a little too long but with regular use, now I shouldn't have to ever disassemble all 48 teardrops & 5 crystal swags again to clean it...thank goodness!

  65. Cindy I discovered your beautiful blog tonight through your link on Pinterest and I've been sitting here reading absolutely every entry! I love everything about your blog, and your Romantic Home. I have several pieces similiar to your Before's that I've been meaning to paint for awhile and your Blog has me so inspired I'd start tonight if it wasn't past midnight in Texas. LOL Loved that you mentioned how much you love Chalk Paint because my DIL has been telling me that's how I should go when I do start painting all the furniture I want to. I was also happy to notice the Cottage sign hanging over the window in your absolutely gorgeous bedroom as I was somewhat dismayed to read your post that you had been waiting a month for it to arrive :( I will be back to follow and check your Blog for sure. Keep up the beautiful work, you made me smile too :) and thanks for all the inspiration you share. Sammie
