I found this cute pedestal ceramic dish at the Goodwill yesterday. It was marked $9.99 which I thought was too high so I pointed out a small chip underneath and she gave it to me for $5.00! Don't those pears looks good! They're fake! I bought those at Target last year. A couple people asked to see photos of my kitchen. So this is for you...
It's a very small L-shaped, typical 1960's apartment kitchen. When I moved in everything was beige, the walls were beige and the cabinets were beige. I painted the walls gray...but they look blue and the cabinets white. Click here to see my original post about my kitchen makeover.
I think I'm ready to change this valance. I made this really quickly when I first moved in 4 years ago. I want to do something similar but with a different pattern of toile. The big apothecary jar with lemons came from Marshalls. (Really, they should be paying me for all the times I mention their name here)
You are probably wondering if I got the dining room table I posted about yesterday. I went to buy it after work and as I was looking at it closer I realized that two of the legs are cracked so I didn't buy it. I talked to my dad this morning and he said that's not a big deal since I'm going to paint it. He said to mix sawdust and glue and put it in the crack, let it dry and then do it again. Then follow up with a wood filler and then paint. I'm going to go back tonight after work and hopefully it will still be there. Then I need to go to Home Depot with a baggy and steal some sawdust from under their saw. Don't worry...I'll ask before I steal it!
UPDATE: I went out at lunch today and bought the table! WhooHoo! The only bad thing is I won't be going to the flea market tomorrow because I spent my loot! Hopefully I can sell my dining room table on Craigslist this weekend.
Oh...I thought it was something structural...Dad's right...if it's only cosmetic then it's no biggy... it will look good as new! YIPEEEE!
ReplyDeleteGet painting! :)
M ^..^
hi cindy!
ReplyDeletei look forward to reading your blog everyday.i just love your kitchen.infact i love every corner of your house!cant wait to see your latest project.
Oh, Cindy you go girl. Get that saw dust and fix that table. I pray it's still there for you. Can you call them and put a hold on it ???
ReplyDeleteCheck back with ya.
Ciao
Glenda
P.S. My offer of help still stands if you need it.
Love your kitchen! So, your landlord was good with you painting? Years ago, when first married, we were renters and the landlords would always tell us that we would leave the places looking better than when we got there! I think some of them raised the rent when we left!
ReplyDeleteThe bowl is gorgeous--as is your kitchen! Blue and white is so calming. We have old dark oak cabinets here and I keep thinking about painting them white...but oh! the work!
ReplyDeleteCindy, I don't want to see you on America's Most Wanted. And, I believe they will definitely give you their sawdust. Thank God for your father.
ReplyDeleteYou are so funny!! I just love your posts every day and really don't like it when you miss a day!! No pressure! Just letting you know that we appreciate you and all that you share with us! Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny because that's what I do - "steal sawdust"!! But usually the guys fill the bag for me at a local lumber yard. I use it for many secret things, but it is wonderful for the uses I have it for. ;-) They don't find giving you sawdust!
ReplyDeleteSmoochies and good luck going back tonight.........
Connie
Sorry, meant to say they don't *MIND* giving you the sawdust.

Hi Cindy! You have one of the prettiest blogs I've seen!!!! Love cottage, shabby chic style but my home is soo far from that! Maybe my next adventure! I too like Jo Packham's book and I live by Barefoot Contessa Family Style Cookbook! I love your thrift store dish and I think your kitchen is perfect the way it is but do know about changing curtains (too often everyone thinks)toile is my favorite fabric and I have a red and cream one just waiting for me to paint a room and hang the panels! Love your blog; I'll be visiting often! Have a great weekend - Jeannette
ReplyDeleteI can just see you on your hands and knees scooping up sawdust - and the looks you will get!!!!
ReplyDeleteBless...
You are so funny! I wonder how many requests for free sawdust they get at Home Depot? Good luck, and I hope you get the table. :)
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Mary
Oh honey you sound like me! I always look for chips and scratches so I can get an even better bargain!!!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited to see your new project- before and afters hopefully??
I still can not believe you live in an apartment- your home is gorgeous. You inspire other apartment dwellers like me! I just wish I could paint my cabinets white!!! Your kitchen is so cozy I just want to jump in there and start whipping up some homemade bread!! I love how you have used the little chandy in there!!
Home Depot will be more than happy to give you sawdust! I have asked them before and they brought out a whole bag from the back! he he
Enjoy your project and I can't wait to see it!
-Heather :)
Your kitchen is so beautiful and inspirational. Even though it's small, you have room for a lamp and chandelier. That's wonderful. I like your new dish. It's nice to be focused and then you don't get sidetracked, very freeing. Diane
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy, as always, I am inspired by your creative ideas! Can I share one with you? What do you think of this? My friend and I want to use the glass domes that you can find sooooo cheap because they are the cheese dome tops (you know the ones with the ugly wooden dish for the bottom) Anyway we thought of using epoxy to attach a candlestick to a small plate and use the cheese ball lid as a smaller version of a cake plate and lid.ksarra
ReplyDeleteCool,I'm so glad you got the table. I love your kitchen.
ReplyDeleteCindy,
ReplyDeleteHave you ever painted a chandelier? I found the girliest romantic one today and brought it home but I am having a hard time deciding what color or even if to paint it, though I am pretty sure it will...there is much detail and scroll like feminine swirls of brass with crystals...picture on my blog earlier today Love to know your ideas....Shan
Love the kitchen! Even though you're in an apartment, your kitchen is HUGE compared to my teeny tiny kitchen!! I love the little birds and the white tray....oh, and I also love the little lamp in there!! Very pretty!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you got the table!!! Can't wait for you to post the finished pics!! Good luck selling your table this weekend!

ReplyDeleteThis is a gorgeous little space-Tara
So glad you got the table and I'll be looking for the makeover. Your kitchen is so pretty. I have blue and white plates above my cabinets. Several people have told me they tired of their blue and white and packed it away, but for me I think it blue and white forever. Although I love the idea of a whiter palette I doubt that it will work for me--two terriers and three teens!
ReplyDeleteCindy:
ReplyDeleteYou NEVER cease to amaze me. Your kitchen looks like a model home and your countertop looks so cozy. I just love looking at your beautiful home. I hope one day we can meet and I can see it in person.
Lots o love,
Debbie
That's a great pedestal dish, Cindy - and those pears looked REAL! Sooo happy for you that you got the table you wanted! I swear, you are like the Energizer bunny! I wish I had half your ambition and energy! And your kitchen is just beautiful. How I wish I had a window over my sink.. Not a single window in my kitchen (sigh...) I've always said the floorplan of our house must have been designed by a man who had issues with women... And I did get a HUGE amount of buttons on eBay several years ago.. I forget how many pounds it was, but it was enough to fill up all my vases and bowls and whatnot! LOL Have a great weekend!...Donna
ReplyDeleteYippeeee! Another makeover project for us to look forward to. LOL! Seriously though, I don't think you will be sorry you got the table and chairs. Sometimes you just have to listen to your heart instead of your head when it comes to stuff like this.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the white bowl. Once again, I'm just amazed at the great stuff you find thrifting.
Love that dish...great bargain shopping! I remember your kitchen from RMS and I love it as much now as I did the first time I saw it. I am hoping to transform my kitchen sometime this summer by painting my cabinets a creamy white and tearing down my dark wallpaper and painting something light in its place.
ReplyDeleteGreat buy on the table too! It's going to be stunning!
Gorgeous kitchen! Good luck getting that table sold and fixing up the new one. Looking forward to pics.
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is so clean..i like!
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is so beautiful and charming! I love it!!!! I'm so glad you were able to get the new dining room table......can't wait to see it transformed :o) Good luck on selling your current one too! Have a great weekend!

ReplyDeleteI read your posts daily, but this is the first time I have ever commented. This morning i finally made it into our local Marshalls and darned if you aren't RIGHT! I found some LOVELY white accent dishes, as well as a beautiful quilted table runner. Thanks for the tip, and keep up the good work on a wonderful blog!
Hi Cindy,
ReplyDeleteI hadn't seen your kitchen since the makeover, and I must say, it is just gorgeous! I love all of your white pops and that dish from GW is so pretty! Great find :)
Hugs,
Dena
I love the goodwill find! It looks great on you kitchen counter.
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is amazing. So romantic and homey. I really like the chandelier by your kitchen sink. Perfect.
ReplyDeleteCindy, you are amazing! This kitchen is gorgeous! I want to tell you about Aves Apoxie Sculpt. It's a two-part epoxy putty that is so useful! I am sculptin a doll with it right now, but I've also used it to repair my faucet! If you ever get more furniture with cracks you can use it to fill in. I love the stuff. The table looks beautiful so far!
ReplyDeleteCindy,
