In my mind I thought I could finish this table and chairs in a weekend but I couldn't. I was able to get it all primed and I should wait until it's finished to show you but I've never been good at waiting. So here it is in all it's primed glory with the ugly 1960's gold velvet seat cushions. A work in progress! I had to move it inside because I don't have a garage. I love it and I think it goes so well with my $25 garage sale chandelier! I almost forgot to take a "before" photo. You would think after all I've done that I wouldn't forget something so simple! I had already started stripping the top. It was a dark shiny top so you can use your imagination. It's hard to tell but it was painted yellow with gold accents.
I'm thinking about putting this applique on the top of each chair (painted white) . It's small 4.25 X 1.25.

Updated: Here is the old set in case you forgot what it looked like. It was nice but too clunky for my taste.
Oh, Wow! I went back and looked at the old table and chairs and the new set is PERFECT for you. The old set looks way too country in comparison.
ReplyDelete~elaine~
Cindy, I love it! And it was meant to be if you were able to sell the other one for the same price so soon!! I like the applique for the chairs - as we all know it is the details that matter.
ReplyDeleteThe table looks so good! It's amazing how paint changes everything. It's going to look fantastic when you're finished. Love the appliques.
ReplyDeleteI looks GREAT already! LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteIt's looking good. I think it looks and fits better than your old set. I wish I had your energy!
ReplyDeleteCindy, the table and chairs are looking so good with just primer on them. Can't wait to see them finished. You picked out a perfect style. The carved decor will top it off beautiful.
ReplyDeleteCome by and post for a giveaway I'm having.
Have a Blessed Day,
Bonnie
Wow!! That's going to be perfect for you. It already looks great in the pictures.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder you wanted the set - it looks great! I think the appliques will be a nice touch and I can't wait to see the chairs with the toile fabric. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteDebbie V.
Oh, yes indeed that looks far more to your style. And yes add the appliques. What ever your instinct tells you. And you are right about the clunky other table. I bet it puts a smile on your face when you look at it now.
ReplyDeleteTill the reveal, will just have to imagine what it will turn out like. That would the type of table and chairs I would lean towards getting.
Ciao
Glenda
"Tres Chic"!! Just fabulous! The style is so fitting! Love it Cindy!
ReplyDeleteHugs~ Saralee
PS~ The appliques will be the perfect touch!
Hi Cindy. It looks fantastic! I'll bet you are really tired, refinishing is a lot of hard work!!! The appliques are going to be the finishing touch like that perfect piece of jewelry on a black dress!!!lol You are such an inspiration and as soon as this 95 hot humid junk leaves I am getting several cans of white paint; black and beige going white is in!!! Have a great day - Jeannette
ReplyDeletePerfect. Perfect!!!!!
ReplyDeleteJust perfect. The older set was a tad casual.
ReplyDeleteThe tops of the chairs match the arch in the door of your china cabinet.
this is going to be beautiful. i like the old set, too, but the oval table and the graceful chairs complete that space so well!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the curvy lines to your "new" dining table and chairs!! You did a great job Cindy and I'm in awe of your talent and doggedness to bring new life to your treasured finds! I have no such determination myself. Looking forward to the finished results even though it looks lovely now. Suesue
ReplyDeleteCindy it looks wonderful even just primed. The applique will look fabulous on the chairs.
ReplyDeleteAlison

You work fast!!! I love this new set! I really liked the old one too but this seems to "fit" better! It seems so light and airy- I like how you put it at this angle. Oh I am so excited to see it completely done with the toile fabric and all! Love the appliques!
ReplyDelete-Heather :)
You've been working hard, and it is looking great. It does work well in your dining room.

You are a dynamo, girl! I can't believe you have the table and chairs striped and primed already. It looks great. I really liked your old set but this is even better!
ReplyDeleteYour home is beautiful - you have a lot of talent and unique ideas. I like your style and the best part of it is that you don't follow the "rules!"
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be GORGEOUS when it's finished. It's looking great already. I'm terribly impressed. Love the "cheap" chandalier too.
ReplyDeleteI thought your old set was really nice but this one fits your home even better.
ReplyDeleteYour better off letting the prime coat dry well, but I understand your excitement at wanting it done.
Love the bargain chandelier!
HI Cindy,
ReplyDeleteWow that was quick! Lookin good.

ReplyDeleteThe new set is more your style....and more "light and airy" you have a beautiful home.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! Jill (Jiller53150 on Rate my Space)
It's looking good, cant wait to see the upholstery done.I know what it's like without a garage, constantly having to move things inside, or put plastic over them! I dont have a carport either, frustrating! I use my big covered verandah, though hubby isnt too happy about it, I tend to do about 5 projects at once!
ReplyDeleteSue
these are gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteby the way, where do you get your appliques?
Looks just great! Love the centerpiece too.
ReplyDeleteWow!!! What a difference a little primer makes! The table and chairs are gorgeous and just perfect for the space :o)

ReplyDeleteCindy, You got so much done over the weekend. I can't believe that you got it all done. The new table and chairs look so graceful and feminine. Can't wait to see the finished product.
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy! You are one determined lady to get all this done in a very short time. I have been watching your postings and marvel at the items you pick up at the thrift store. I am envious. I have been having so much fun creating my own world since I first found you on the internet. Thanks for the boost I needed. Rosie
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy,
ReplyDeleteOh this set is so much more you. It was definitely meant just for you and it is in such good condition. Love the chairs. Can't wait to see them recovered.
Hugs,
LeAnn:)
an applique in the middle of each long side of your table would look good also.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my porch Cindy, come again anytime.
Lovely work in progress...
ReplyDeleteWow, I am so envious of you. I would never tackle anything like that. I keep thinking I should buy something small and try to be creative. You do such beautiful work. I love your new table, it is so you.
ReplyDeleteThey are so beautiful, love the French style. Definitely needed the paint job, you were lucky to get them for the price you paid for them even though it involved hard work. You've done so well.
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful!!!!
ReplyDeleteI liked your old set, but this just really fits in better! It's gorgeous, so feminine and kind of lacy. Love it! It looks so good painted, and I can't wait to see it all finished.

Hi Cindy, I believe that EVERYTHING you do is beautiful. It is a gift to be able to put things together that work so well and compliment each other perfectly. I think I like too many different styles, and so things don't have that "flow". The new table is perfect, I can hardly wait to see it when it's done!ksarra(RMS)
ReplyDeleteYour new set is really elegant. I love it.
ReplyDeleteOh yes the new table somehow looks much better in your living/dinning room. As usual you have done a magnificent job painting it, who would tell that it is not yet totally finished.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week. Suzy
What a lovely set. It'll look perfect after been painted. You have really good taste.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good week.
Love Elzie
Cindy, great job on your house decor. I love reading your blog. Did you use a spray primer for the kane part of the chair? How do you avoid drip marks? Gosh, looking at your home makes me want to paint everything white in my house.
ReplyDeleteThere's never enough time to get everything done we dream up, is there?! I love your new dinning set. It's just the right amount of delicate. Blessings... Polly
ReplyDeleteCindy,
ReplyDeleteThe design of your new dining set really fits in with the light, romantic mood of your home. The other set has a bit more of a country feel to me.
I love what you're doing and can't wait to see the finished product.
Cindy, that new set is perfect for you! I'm so glad you got it. Don't you love Craigslist. I just did something similar with a chair & ottoman & bought at Salvation Army (which I haven't posted yet). Sold my old set for the same price as the new. Love that!
ReplyDeleteRhoda
Love your new dining room set. Too shabby cute. I painted my dining room set white a couple of years ago as well. I planned on 2 days, it actually took three. And don't the chairs take FOREVER?!
ReplyDeleteLooking great! Can't wait to see the new chair seatcovers.
ReplyDeleteYou always do a great job...
MimiG
Hi Cindy. I love your new dining room set, especially the shape of the table legs! And I can't wait to see those chairs covered in blue toile.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of putting the end chairs into corners of the dining room. Since you can see the whole chair, it's nice to consider an accent pillow on the back of each. . . and perhaps change them with each season. Just lovely. I can't wait to see this set all finished!
~Arleen
P.S. I wrote about you in my blog today. :-)
This is one of my favorite sites!
ReplyDeleteI think its so cool how you share all your talents with us and give us so many ideas!

I love this new set! It looks great in your dining area!
ReplyDeleteYou have a fantastic blog!
LOVE LOVE LOVE the backs on those chairs Cindy! Painting cane like that is so time consuming...but it will be worth it!
ReplyDeleteLove this new set Cindy and it turned out to be a great bargain! Now you are woking your magic - will be fabulous when completed with new fabric on the seats. It's a beautiful set - I need to go treasure hunting for one like this!
ReplyDeletewhite paint is amazing! your furniture already looks so fresh even with just the primer on it. what a difference a different shaped table looks, too...can't wait to see everything finished!
ReplyDeleteThis new table and chairs set reminds me of my parent's set, except there's is not white. It looks PERFECT in your cottage home!! Can't wait to see the chairs reupholstered, too!!

Cindy in Florida,
ReplyDeleteI don't have your email address to respond to you. I painted my chairs with a brush. When you paint the cane you have to be sure to go back and forth from the front to the back because the paint runs to the other side. I hope that makes sense.
Oh, aren't you glad you bought it? Now you are making me want to paint my new set, it is very similar! I like the way yours looked, the primer gives us a nice sneak preview of the finished look.
ReplyDeleteLove your page!! So beautiful! Amazing! xo Renee
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy :)
ReplyDeleteI really love your new table and chairs. Until I read this post I was going to go back and tell you to buy it, because I could tell you really wanted too ;)
Thank you for understanding my house issues :)
Did you ever go get that See's candy??
