California Lilacs

My lilacs are in full bloom right now! I found this lilac plant at the nursery about 3 years ago. It said on the tag that it was a good variety to grow in California. Lilacs grow here but they don't get huge like in other parts of the country. I've been really impressed with this one. It was just a tiny little plant and now 3 years later it's thriving! Sorry, I don't remember the name of this one. I really should keep a gardening journal.
Thanks you so much for all your very nice comments yesterday. You are all too nice! Some of my coworkers said I look sad in that picture I put on my profile and that I should put one of me smiling because I'm always smiling...ahhh that made my day. For now, that picture will have to do but I promise not to wait 5 years to update it!

I hope every one has a wonderful Easter weekend!

  3. Oh your lilac is so pretty! I'm sure it must smell heavenly, too. So glad you screwed up your courage and put your lovely photo up -- how nice to see your pretty face!

I finally found a copy of Romantic Country. Oh how I enjoyed reading about you, and Penny, and Kim's piece!

    Have a wonderful Easter!

  5. Your lilacs are beautiful. Here in upstate NY the lilacs bloom in May. I have 3 and a newere variety that I put in about 2 years ago that's suppose to bloom all summer. If you ever come to NY you should go to Rochester where for about 2 months may & june, lilacs of different varieties bloom profusely. I plan on taking a day trip this spring! Happy gardening, your site is beautiful :)

  6. Gorgeous Flowers! That is one thing that I do miss about California.

BTW, you're beautiful and you shouldn't hate your picture, but I can't say anything because I don't have a recent pic of myself on my blog either because I hate every picture of myself too! LOL

What diet are you on? I need to lose weight too.

Oh and the sewing machine wheel turn worked!! Thank you :)

    Happy Easter,

  7. Ahhhh, so lovely. I can smell the lilacs now. All the way from California to Ohio. I need to transplant my lilac this year. I put it in a temporary spot... 3 years ago. Now it's getting too big.

I'm so glad to see a new picture of you! You look exactly the way I've imagined you; beautiful with a warm and open appearance. I love visting your blog EVERYDAY!! You have also inspired me to open my own blogger acount and start blogging. Don't think it will be as good as yours, but it will be nice to have a record of things to look back on. Thanks Again for everything!!!

  9. Cindy,
These are beautiful! Maybe there is some hope for our California yard - in the front at least.

I saw your comment on Fifi's blog about moving all the Romantic Country's up to the front - you go Cindy! Now if I can just find one I'll be in luck - even my husband's running around looking for me.

    Happy weekend and Happy Easter.

  15. Those lilacs are unbelievable. My best friend loves lilacs, but I have never seen them growing. The blooms remind me a little of wisteria.

    Your picture looks great.

  22. Well Dear Beautiful Cindy (comment for yesterday's post for ya). . . thank you for sharing your beautiful lilac bush. As I type this we are getting ANOTHER Dang Nabit winter storm. We left Good Friday services at church tonight and came out to a blizzard!! We are expecting 5" - 10" AGAIN. So much for our new spring Easter clothes for Sunday. The church Easter Egg Scramble has officially been moved to inside the church (gee wonder why??) this year.

Oh for Spring to hit our state. Please slowly inhale the wonderful fragrance of those lilacs (my favorite flower) for me PLEASE and send the good thoughts our way :)

    Have a wonderful Easter!

    Blessings,

    Sher

  24. How beautiful! I LOVE your blog. I have a passion for decorating! We are preparing to move to OH, into a 5 bdr farm house, built in 1897, that needs to be redone. I am SO excited! Going to link to your blog so I can come back and see what else you have! Happy Easter!

  27. Lilacs are my favorite flower. I have one right by my back door so I can smell the fragrance when I come home. It only blooms about a week out of the year, but I love it.

Your new photo is just lovely.

Loved the article about you in Romantic Country. How very exciting! Congratulations. Amy

  31. Those beautiful lilacs bring me back to my childhood in upstate NY. Unfortunately, they do not grow well in TX.

I am always amazed by the gardens in California. I belong to a forum where a gardener in the Bay area posts pictures of lilacs growing next to orange trees! How lucky you are to be able to grow both. :-)

  34. Cindy,
Just found your site. The Lilacs are beautiful. Wish you had a "scratch & sniff" area, I'd love to be able to smell them. Just the site of that bush takes me back to my mother's yard. She had a wonderful lilac bush too. I haven't been able to get one to grow yet.
    Have a blessed Easter,
    Kay

  35. We have some of these California lilacs, but ours are cut way back and haven't bloomed yet!

I can't find the magazine with your article in it anywhere, but I will continue on my quest.

  36. Oh! I love lilacs! That one is gorgeous! Happy Easter!

  37. I wish you could add a scratch and sniff feature to the blog so I could smell these. I am sure it is pure heaven! I have had to avoid planting these for years as we have the pool and didn't need anymore bees in the area than we already have. For now I will have to enjoy looking at yours.

  38. Cindy, More of a question than a comment. I too am a single mom here in So. California and I rent as well. So I do most of my gardening in containers. Is your lilac in a container or the ground? thanks so much! Rhonda

    ReplyDelete
  39. Rhonda, my lilac is in the ground. I actually found an apartment with a little back yard! That's what sold me on this place. It's a 1969 4-plex but it's more like a townhouse because each unit is 2-story and we have small back yards/patios.
