Dreaming of a White Christmas

Every year I hope that this will be the year that we will get snow. It's only snowed here twice in my lifetime, but I was only 1 year old the first time so I don't really remember it. I've just seen the photograph of my mom holding me in front of the snowman in our front yard that my brother and sister made. The second time it snowed I was a sophomore in high school. I'll never forget that day. I woke up and walked from my bedroom to the kitchen and as I passed by the window I saw white out of the corner of my eye. I still remember running up to my parents bedroom screaming with excitement! It was so much fun to go to school that day! Oh how I hope that we get snow this winter!

Tomorrow we're going to cut down our Christmas tree! Last year I wanted a big fat one and this year I want a tall, skinny tree. I'm thinking of getting it flocked this year. I went by a Christmas Tree lot last night to ask them if they could flock a tree that I didn't purchase from them...of course they could for $4.00 a foot! They said it takes 24 hours for the flocking to dry so I would be able to decorate it until Sunday...I don't know if I can wait until Sunday, I'm so ready to have it up NOW! I guess you'll all find out Monday what I decided to do!

  1. I remember snow flurries twice here in sunny FL; once when I was in elementary school and once in the mid 70's. At the time, my hubby was a K9 police officer working the midnight shift. He came home to wake me up so I could see it. I was not not amused to be dragged out of my warm bed. Snow means COLD and I'm definitely a warm weather person! LOL.

Looking forward to seeing your tree--flocked or unflocked I'm sure it will be beautiful.

  2. I grew up in DEEP South Texas, the Rio Grande Valley. Snow is an EXTREME rarity there. We might get flurries once in 10 years! But in 2004, we actually had a white Christmas! 2 - 6 inches of snow, starting on Christmas Eve and continuing on Christmas Day. It was magical...and very nearly a miracle for South Texans!

  3. I would love to experience a white Christmas too! One day....one day we hope to travel to the USA and spend Christmas in NYC because I'd love to see Rockafeller Centre! Living where I do, we'll never have a white Xmas since it's Summer here right now! Oh well, I'll just keep dreaming.........lol

  4. Good luck on the tree & can't wait to see what you decide to do.

It snowed in Southern Texas 2 winters ago...on CHRISTMAS DAY no less! ...but guess what?? It snowed North of our farm and Southwest of it ...but it missed us all together! I was so sad and was waiting all day with my camera in hand.

  7. Oooh, I love those pictures -- especially the one in the middle. We do get snow here every winter, but not always at Christmas. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Can't wait to see your tree.

  8. Quick! If you hurry you can sit by my "fireplace" and have a nice cup of cocoa and watch the snow falling at my house! The photos here are much more lovely to see, but you are welcome to share my snow filled day anytime. I had to laugh as I had just returned from my snowy, cold commute today and turned to your blog only to find this post. I was just complaining how cold and wet I was. Guess you just helped me put it all in perspective.
I am waiting to see which you chose for your tree. I haven't seen a flocked tree for years, had completely forgotten it was possible. We never had one as I hear it can create quite a mess with decorations etc. Do remember one quick tip from my memory though. Be sure when you bring it in to set up, get one of those "tree disposal bags" to put on the base before you put it in the stand and do the ornaments. That way when you are ready to take it outside, you can slip the bag over it to keep the flocking from flaking off the tree and getting all over your house.
    Have a wonderful weekend!

  9. Hi Cindy,

I have never heard of a "flocked" tree, but I assume it is to make it look like it has snow on it. Of course if a tree really had snow on you wouldn't bring it into the house to melt all over the floor.LOL.

We haven't had a white Christmas here in Mass. for quite a few years and I guess the statistics are one out of seven or something. The snow is pretty if it is fresh, but stale dirty snow does not a pretty Christmas make. Your pix sure are pretty though.

  10. I love the photos Cindy.
It has snowed here a couple of times in my life that I can remember. Southern Calif, doesn't normally get snow.
I think you should get your tree flocked. It would be so pretty.
    Can't wait to see it.

  11. I love the snowy house pics. There's nothing more inviting than a snow covered house with welcoming lights on inside like the middle picture.
Also, your staircase in previous post looks so elegant.

  18. We haven't had a real tree in years but I think they are so pretty. They are very expensive out here in West Texas so we just use a faux tree ea year.
I do hope you get the snow you want for Christmas!

  19. Well move to PA Cindy. Then you can have all the snow you want. We're actually on a Winter Advisory right now until 10 am Sunday.

I love the look of a flocked tree. I say have it done. You can still have it decorated by EARLY December.

    Take pictures!!

    Love,

  21. Cindy - same with me - I was a year old the first time and the second time we had moved away to DC for a year and wouldn't you know it that was when it snowed in the bay area! Of course DC was under feet of snow but I always felt cheated.

    Maybe this year.....

  22. Pretty pictures! I grew up in Michigan it snowed all the time - lol. Now I live in NC and we have snow flurries a couple of times a year where I live. More at the higher elevations...I love snow, now that I don't have to go out in it to drive daily.

  23. Hey, I live in Michigan and we're in the middle of a snow storm. Next, after the snow stops, freezing rain/sleet is to follow.

If you'd like to come help me shovel out and get that "wanting for snow" out of your system. . . please feel free to join me anytime :)

    Blessings,

    Sher

  25. Gorgeous pictures! Up here in Oregon we hardly ever have a white Christmas, though we sometimes do get snow (every year or two, for a day or maybe two), and as a child that always made me so sad. Now my little one is four and he can't understand why we aren't going to have a white Christmas! Boo! But I don't think I'm ready to brave the upper Midwest full time just for that! Can't wait to see your tree!

  26. So lovely pictures. Me too wants a white Christmas but it doesn't happen often here either. Mostly it's rain and grey days.
Hope you're having a great Sunday.

  27. I would gladly share some of that snow we received overnight with you. It would mean less shovelling for me and that would be a goood thing. It does look like a winter wonderland out there but when you know you'll be getting this for months to come, it takes away somewhat from the beauty of it. We just have to figure out a way to share it with you guys who are yearning for it.
I,too have never heard of flocking a tree. What is it?

  28. Well, here in central Massachusetts we've been promised snow this evening, Sun. Dec. 2. It is a bit early in the season, since we like to get our shopping and errands done without having to struggle with cleaning snow off our cars and driveways. Of course, it's great to have snow on Christmas Eve. I dislike a drab Christmas with no snow!

  29. What pretty pictures. That one with the red barn jumped out at me right when I clicked on your blog. I hope you get your blanket of snow for Christmas.

  30. Cindy, This is perfection. I am patiently waiting for some snow here is MA. I just love snow. If it's going to be cold and dreary outside, what better way to spend the day than watching it snow! Awesome girl.. Love it.

I can't wait to see your flocked tree!! Of course, no one around here would know what the heck I was talking about if I asked them to do that to my tree...
Youe Christmas decorations look beautiful, of course, and I am so looking forward to seeing more...
