My mom gave me these old Victorian boots last time I saw her. They are really old but you can tell that they were only worn once or twice at the most! They reminded me of witch's shoes so I thought they would make a good Halloween decoration. I put some tall drinking glasses in them and then some beautiful fresh flowers. The crow with a cherry in his mouth was made by my dad. It's hard for me to decorate my home in the fall because my home decor is so summery that it usually looks out of place but I think this little side table in my dining room is just the right amount of Autumn.
Very creative Cindy! Just the right amount of black and orange! Love the cloche too....is that what it's called or am I way off?
ReplyDeleteI think you have the right idea, Cindy...a touch of Victorian for fall.
ReplyDeleteIt's perfect Cindy!
ReplyDeleteLooks perfect Cindy!

My house, like yours, is summery and my favorite holiday is Halloween! Somehow the mixture works and your arrangement looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteSo charming and whimsical -- I love that crow! My house is at not at it's best in spring and summer, because of all the wood, and the reds, so I know what you mean about seasonal decor clashes. I think you've done a perfect job!

That shoe does look like it belongs to the Wicked Witch! Love that crow. It's all lovely Cindy!

I love the black boot! What a wonderful idea :)

It's beautiful Cindy!!
ReplyDeleteThat crow your dad made is amazing.
Now I want to find some old shoes like yours.
Rosemary
As usual, too cute and very creative! Only you would think to use a pair of old shoes to hold fresh flowers! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI totally hear you about how difficult it is to decorate for fall with your summery color scheme. I'm in the same boat. Since I'm not crazy about some of the fall colors (oranges, yellows and browns-yick!) and it's impossible to make them "go" with the pinks inside my house anyway, I found it's just easier to limit my fall decor to the front porch.
What a darling display. Love the shoes! I think it fits right in your cozy home.

Using the shoes as a vase is a fabulous idea! Your Autumn decorations look great. ~ Lynda ♥
ReplyDeleteCindy, what a great idea with the shoe. Love the crow your Dad did. It sure is hard to have to add the fall colours to a light environment. Some how it takes away that peaceful, serene look.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the boot!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour fall decor looks beautiful Cindy. Those boots are great and I love how you used them!
ReplyDeletePat
I love the way you decorate your homes for Autumn, we only seem to decorate for Christmas over here in Australia. I love your Fall section in your home you've created Cindy, just perfect!
ReplyDeleteThis tablescape looks just perfect. So like all the decorating you do. I would NEVER have thought to use the shoes as you did and it just looks so neat.
ReplyDeleteYou are right....this is just the right amt. I have a hard time decorating for the fall...it is my least favorite time of the year, I guess.
bj
THose definately look like witches shoes and your side table has just the right amount of freakiness.
ReplyDeleteCindy,
ReplyDeletethis looks perfect! Love the boot! I have the same problem with decorating for fall. I have all pinks and creams in my house. This is just the right touch of whimsy.
I can use burgandy though, so I try to incorporate that. I had done the same thing with an old purse that you did with the boot. I saw it in a magazine where they put a glass inside and old purse, and then put flowers in it on a table. I used a patent leather one in the spring with little gloves also. Looked so cute!
Debbie
How clever of you to put the glasses & flowers in the boots!
ReplyDeleteLove the old shoes, especially with the flowers in them~how clever, love the cloche,~I have a thing for cloche's, And love the crow~that talented father of yours!! It looks perfectly charming!

What a wonderful display! Your things always look so nice!

Hi Cindy,
ReplyDeleteI love that boot with the flowers - it does look like a witch wore it :) I completely understand what you mean about the Summer look and the struggle to do seasonal decor. I have the exact opposite, my colors always look like Fall!
Hugs,
Dena
That is so chic! I love it... I have a darker palette in my home, and fall is just perfect in it, but your summery cool blues are perfect year round, and this is just the right touch... Also your light colors would look lovely with those pumpkins on FIFI's website she just made. Did you see them? I am going to try and make one for my mother's house.. It's all light and airy... I LOVE the shoes and the little pumpkins. That photo is my desktop right now...
ReplyDeleteIt looks very pretty, especially with the chandelier droplets in the foreground to give it some romantic sparkle.
ReplyDeleteAlexandra
Cindy, What a clever use of an old shoe! As usual, your house is beautiful. Cheryl
ReplyDeleteI love the crow especially! And I think using this side table for your autumn decorating is wonderful - it looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteLooks absolutely lovely Cindy...

I'm curious Cindy... did your mother tell you (or do you already know) the history behind those interesting Victorian boots? Did she buy them second-hand? Were they passed down by a relative? Found in somebody's attic? It's hard to tell the size from the picture; do you think they belonged to a woman or young girl? So very cool! I'm just enthralled with them!
ReplyDeleteThe boots and crow are the perfect seasonal touch! And family treasures too!
ReplyDeleteLove it.
Hugs,
Sue
I love your fall table. Just the right amount. That boot is awesome and I like the lamp. Is it new?
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely combination of treasures. I adore that table with the birdhouses. Karen
ReplyDeletePerfect amount of fall Cindy, perfect amount!! I could see those white pumpkins in your decor as well.

ReplyDeleteperfect settings...hats off...I'd like to try with my favorite josef seibel shoes.....
ReplyDeleteThis is such fantastic display. Thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteOMG Where did you get the beautiful beverage dispenser? I saw one in the Ginny's catalog & then found one @ Sam's Club for a fraction of the cost. You are amazing, what an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteDebbieKay,
ReplyDeleteI got the beverage dispenser at Marshall's. It was $49 which was a lot for me but it's a lot cheaper than some of the others I've seen. I did a post about it when I bought it. I think it was sometime last Spring.
Cindy ~ I love how you decorate and this was just beautiful. Love, love, love the boots with flowers. So inspiring!!!
