Most of the time I feel very content, happy and thankful for the things I do have but there are also times when I really wish I had more money to buy more things. Awhile ago I found this quote on an email someone sent me. I printed it out and kept it on my desk to remind myself to not become too materialistic.
"Wanting more doesn't breed contentment, it breeds more wanting."
Oh very good...I have to write that down.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Kathy
Cindy,
ReplyDeleteI agree with that one!

soooooo true. Less is more, most of the time. (At least it causes us to be more creative...)

ReplyDeleteThat quote works on the non-material level, as well... Dis-Contentment and Non-gratitude for what we have in the relationship-level, and circumstances- usually breeds discontent, too... But a fine line between contentment and settling... Your thoughts made me philosphical.. (somewhat!)... P.S. I have worked all morning on a rose from MS website... duh.. not going well for me at all... but I don't have the wires, the tapes, or the paint.. Come to think of it, all I had was the coffee filters? haha... So, no wonder, huh?
ReplyDeleteSo true. I had a very rich friend tell me once that Money made his life easier, but it didn't make it better in the slightest.
ReplyDeleteHow true. I totally agree. I would love a little bigger house, but I would only fill it with more THINGS. And I already have so many pretties, that I am quiet content with my little tiny home and garden and all the love it brings to others.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this wonderful quote!
That is a wonderful quote. I will definitely be keeping that for future reference!
ReplyDeleteThat is so true Cindy! I am constantly wanting more, thinking it will make me happy but all I do is get depressed wanting to buy something else! I need to write this down and think of it daily.

I just love your blog and all the inspiration you provide! I've been lurking for a while and became so inspired by you and so many others that I dove in and started my own! I hope it can keep me grounded and creative!
ReplyDeleteOh what a wonderful quote. I think we are all guilty of wanting more sometimes. I do all too often. But I learned from some who have much more than I do that it did not bring them lasting happiness...I try to think about that. It is often hard so your quote is a great one to always remember!
ReplyDeleteLove your shelf and the goodies on it!
Hugs,
Sue
Sometimes buying things fills a void we may feel in our lives. It's a way to keep busy and it keeps us distracted by what troubles us. I find that to be true, at times, in my life.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with Tracey that it does motivate one to be creative.

Excellent! My sentiments exactly!
ReplyDeleteHow true... I see this in my sister... sometimes its best to find pleasure in the things we already *have*.
ReplyDeleteI love the little shelf with the blue and white transferware. Thank you for sharing some eye candy with your "food for thought"!
Hi Cindy,
ReplyDeleteI just heard about an earthquake in your area today. I hope your doing well. The first thing I thought of was are your lovely mirrors going up the stairway! You had just mentioned that too.
Take care,
Kathy
Cindy, very good quote. When our possessions start possessing us it is time for a reality check. At this stage in my life I find I am drowning in all the material things I just HAD to have at the time and now it's wearing me out to sort through them and give them away. I believe it was Getty or Rockefeller who said he was the richest man in the world but also the most miserable. Can't take it with us! Sue
ReplyDeleteCindy,
ReplyDeleteGood quote to keep handy! Seems like when I'm not into a decorating project it feels like I have way to much. The minute I start moving things around that old feeling of, if I just had this or that the whole thing would come together.........grrrrrr.
Thanks for sharing.
Sue

Oh, so true. It isn't having the things you want, but wanting the things you have! I learned that years ago!! Love this blog.

Hi Cindy,
ReplyDeleteGood quote! It is hard though when I went through such a hard time in my life..and still am.. I would also go through what I call Retail Therapy!
My Mother always told me "Money buys you more choices, but will never buy you happiness!" So very true also.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy my visits here! Your photos are just beautiful. I loved the ones of your patio/porch as well as the little vignettes you create...its so inspiring!
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you,
Mindy
Hi Cindy,
ReplyDeleteI hear you...I think all of us creative/decorating types feel this pull. We know we may not "need" many of the things we want, but our eye draws us in anyway.
I have a similar type of quote on the bottom of my blog page: "If you haven't got all the things you want, be grateful for the things you don't have, that you don't want." (source unknown)
I love your blog! May I add you to my list of favourites??

Oh my...have you been hanging out with me lately??? I have been lusting (yes, lusting) lately after a new [newer] car though my old [very old] one is just fine. I need to meditate on this one.
ReplyDeleteHow true that is, but I do think it is important to dream and to strive in life.
