This is so disturbing!

THESE GIRLS ARE 6 YEARS OLD!

I'm going to use my blog to rant a bit today. It is not my intention to offend anyone and if I do, I'm sorry...

I turned on the TV Thursday afternoon and it was on VH1 and a show called "Little Beauties: The Ultimate Kiddie Queen Showdown". I don't know what was more disturbing; the makeup, the fake eyelashes, the spray-on tan, or the fact that these mothers are pushing pixie sticks down these 6 year old girls to get them hyped up on sugar to perform well! Oh, I almost forgot...they have fake teeth called flippers that they put in so they have a perfect smile. Hearing a six year old say things like "I need to flirt with my eyes" just saddens me. I bet there are a lot of weirdos out there watching these girls on TV....does that not bother their mothers? I'm all for people doing what they want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone but I think that this is hurting these girls.

  1. Wow that is disturbing. What's the matter with the parents? With all the crimes against young children you'd think "adults" would have more sense. Sadly, the show and parents just want to make money off them and they're a product. In a few years the parents will wonder why their children have emotional problems. You can tell you hit a hot button for me ha ha.
    Best,
    Kathy

  3. As a mother of a 7 yo daughter I am right there with you. I get creeped out when her big sis plays beauty shop with her and straightens her hair and puts lip gloss on her. Parents of girls have to be so careful about the looks area.

  4. These "mom's" are living thru their children! I saw this show and I was shocked at the Mom's behaviour. How sad to teach kids that it is only beauty on the outside that matters. That is what these formative kids are learning.

  5. OH my! I was disturbed yesterday to see a poster at the theatre advertising a movie called Bratz...yes from those raunchy dolls! Yuck.

  6. That is so sad. Let kids be kids. Someone was right. The parents are trying to live out their own dreams. Down the road they'll wonder why little Lindsay is wild and out of control.

  7. You go, girl!! I totally agree with you. These mothers are all living through their girls and then later on they wonder why they end up getting pregnant when they are 14 - go figure! Personally I don't think these woman deserve kids - pretty harsh, you might say, but that's the way I feel! Let a kid be a kid!

  8. Gee, with make-up and false lashes at 6, what's left for 16 or 18? I think this is a disgrace!

  9. You are absolutely right! Those girls are not kids anymore but little mini me's... learning about being the best depends on how you look and not who you really are. So sad.. I'm so glad we don't have that here in Holland!

  10. UN-Believable??
Well, why just be irritated at a Television program.......Vogue magazine and European fashion mags have been making preteens and young teens look like heroin addicts and hookers for YEARS!! American and European demand for perfect camera shots to sell fashion has required the "innocents" be lain on the altar for $cash$....and parents have willingly traded their childrens INNOCENCE for that cash.

  11. I agree 1000%
I think it's really a form of child abuse!

  12. Cindy,
    I agree with you 100% !!
As the mother of twin 5yr olds I couldn't imagine doing such a horrible thing!!!
    So sad to see this!!

  13. I agree. Where is their childhood? Life is so short not to have a childhood. We all grow up too fast anyway.
Hey Cindy, go over and see what I got at a yard sale today. You will want it. lol

  14. I saw a news broadcast on this a few years ago. It is sad that a mother would do this to her daughter.

  15. When I first saw the picture, I thought they were Barbie dolls! The whole thing is just so sad, and I don't think your post was a rant at all -- just righteous anger which should be shared by all.

  16. GROSS! That's what you get with a world that markets Bratz to the little girl set. Ugh.

  17. I have a six-year old, and I can't imagine doing that to her :( They grow up fast enough anyway, you know???
I know little girls love makeup anyway (I had to fuss at my four-year-old tonight because she let my niece doctor her up on the way to a wedding reception...she came in fully loaded with makeup...ugh) but they need to be encouraged to be little girls as long as possible...what about the parents that dress their kids "sexy" with teeny tiny skirts and shorts with writing on the bottom and halter tops? I'm not talking about babies, but preteens, ya know? What kind of message does that send?

  18. I couldn't agree with you more. The mothers are teaching the girls that being a fake is what counts. I have a 11 year old daughter and I'm trying very hard not to let her grow up too fast although she begs for make up and some of the more revealing clothes. What will the girls be like when they become teens or young women? Playboy centerfolds?

  19. Seems to me they are just inviting another Jon-Benet.

  20. I think that's terrible. Where's the childhood, the innocence? They're suppose to be playing with barbie dolls not be one!!!

  21. How sad....these lil girls should be out splashing in the pool and playing hide n seek and being kids...... NOT LOOKING LIKE 20 YEAR OLD BARBIE DOLLS!

Someone needs to wake these parents up and make them take a good look at what they are taking away from their children...
their right to have a normal childhood!!!!

I am sorry to rant....that just really upsets me....kids should be kids...not fake mini adults!

What are they learning from this....
    how NOT TO BE YOURSELF!!!!!

  23. IMHO~Sickening. What I find most disturbing when I've seen clips of these beauty shows is the adult coy gestures these precious little girls have learned. Good for you to rant about this, Cindy!

  24. I'm speechless...

  25. Wow,I have 3 girls and I just couldn't imagine.
I felt almost nauseous when I saw those pics.
    How terribly sad.

  26. This should be made illegal. Our kids cannot work/vote/drive/serve in the forces, until a certain age, but they can be forced to look like little hookers.

  27. I agree! A few years ago I was flipping channels & came across some little girl pageant documentary & it was very disturbing. The mothers were psycho! I have 2 cuties but I would never exploit them...same goes for child actors. I suppose if the child really wants to perform than it is okay, but there is a line that gets crossed way too much.
But, having said that I don't think Barbie dolls are responsible - I played with them & loved them & collect them, but they are just dolls...there is make believe & there is reality.

  28. I so agree Cindy. It has always been sad to do this to little girls...or BIG girls for that matter. But to take a beautiful little girl and do this...it is a crime.
I am seeing 2nd graders already worried about their weight and clothes and hair to extremes! I have seen some of the moms at Grace's school already encouraging their 1st and 2nd graders to wear make up, chase boys, *look good at all costs*,
and they think this is what a parent does! It is laughable.
No, it is too sad to be laughable.

I could wrote you a book about the remarks I have heard in the last 2 1/2 years as the mom of a daughter.
    It is scary....

This is a hot button issue for me as well...I am so glad to see you post this Cindy!

    Hugs,
    Sue

  29. Cindy,
I know, I have seen those shows to.
It really is wrong. I think those mothers have problems. Also, what dentist would make those flippers for girls that age???
What is wrong with them. I think those girls look so creepy, made up that way.
    Thanks for sharing that,
    Rosemary

  30. Mothers pimping out their own little girls for cash...sick I tell you.

If all pagents were 18 and older the world would be a better place. I bet every pedophile in america watches those pagents...shiver....

I have four girls and I would NEVER use them like that. It's so sad.

Good for you, I love these kinds of rants. It shows me I'm not alone in this world! Tee hee!

  31. And people wonder why we have so many pedophiles. Anyone who has anything to do with this industry should be held suspect; it is nothing short of sexualizing little girls.

It is already an ethical crime, and should be punished accordingly under the law.

  32. Here's the thought that crossed my mind as I watched the show -- that the mothers are not as attractive as one might think ..... and the less attractive the mum was -- the more obsessive they seemed to be about their daughter's looks. And the costs of this "hobby" is excessive too -- in time, money etc. What happens to the other kids in the family?

    Interesting post!

  33. I agree with you. This is so sick.
I also agree with the blogger who made the comment of the Mother's living through their daughters...and is it me - or has anyone else ever noticed that the Mothers are usually very "unfit" (obese) and usually quite homely. Not sure if that has anything to do with them wanting to relive their youth through the child or not...just an observation.

  34. I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way too. Good for you Cindy, if more people got upset about this, maybe it would change. I dont know how anyone that loves and wants to protect children could put them through this kind of sick 'show pony' existence.

  35. I first saw this in the movie "Little Miss Sunshine" and it completely horrified me. It's like these women are playing dolls with their own kids. It's scary and sickening. Ugh. ~A :-)

  36. This is really disturbing to me - I've seem similar at my granddaughter's elementary school where a "mom" has pushed her daughter into pageants etc. It's so obvious that the woman has a problem - hopefully the child will not be damaged by such a sad excuse for a parent!

  37. That absolutely breaks my heart. I can't imagine what a mother tells herself that makes that okay in her mind.

  38. Hi there, I'm visiting from Linda's blog where she showed your vintage hankies. Love em!

This picture of the little girls is so so sad. Don't these mothers realize that they're reinforcing the misconception that these girls are objects without value unless they look good? I can't believe that they pluck their eyebrows and plaster on the make up at 6 years old!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ack! I saw the picture and thought you were going to complain about new dolls. I can't believe those are children!

What is upsetting is that looks are fleeting, and when parents put value on their girls based on physical appearance, it can be traumatic when they start to age (or just have their looks change as they get older).

I try to tell my daughter she is smart and funny and keep the comments on her looks to a minimum. I tell her she's pretty, but I definitely don't go on and on about it. You don't want your girls thinking it's all about the way they look.
