Thrift Store Finds...again

I was at the thrift store last week during my lunch hour and I saw a crowd gathering by some large bins on rolling carts and I knew it was new merchandise waiting to be put out. I spotted these on the bottom of one of the clear plastic bins and I had to wait for other people to clear away before I could get to them...trust me, I wanted to push a woman out of the way but I didn't. I started digging for them and that women said...Oh yeah, I saw those but there aren't any cups to go with them. I told her that that doesn't bother me and grabbed them. I walked around the store holding them, wondering what I would do with just the saucers but I couldn't leave without them. They were all so cute.

This yellow one is a little bowl
Once I got them home, I knew where to put them. In my bedroom with my other plates and platters. Of course, I'll always be wondering what happened to the cups!

On HGTV website "Rate my Space" I left a comment for someone who was unsure what to hang over her bed. She had an adorable cottage bedroom so I suggest some vintage plates. Someone else commented that she thinks plates don't belong in a bedroom. Hey, I say if you love plates, hang them in every room, who cares!

Below is the picture before I added my new finds. I think it looks a lot better now. I need two more to add to the sides at the top of the white platter and I should probably stop there.

  1. Cindy, you are so very right! Plates to me are like little pieces of artwork ~ I love them on the wall too. Why should they sit, all stacked up in a cabinet hiding their beauty? Your arrangement looks wonderful and now you can enjoy them every day! xxoo, Dawn

  2. The little plates look beautiful in your bedroom! They make that space! And phooey on the person who says plates don't belong in a bedroom. That is definitely what cottages are all about! I'm so glad the little orphans found a home with you!

  3. Oh, I love plates too! I put them in all rooms, even the bathroom. I especially like that little pink one in your first photo.
And I loved LOVED the pictures of them in your bedroom ~ asking myself 'is that a magazine' then reading that it's really your bedroom ~ though I've seen it before, I am still stunned by how GORGEOUS it is!

  7. Those made a lovely collage of patterns and florals on your bedroom wall!

My husband had a similar reaction when I had plates hung above our bed (before I found the yardlong I liked). He stared and stared at them, then said "Can those go in a bedroom, too?"

Of course this is a man who has yet to figure out how I make the bed. He gets stuck when it comes time to lay the toss pillows out and does really odd things like stack all of them on one side like towels. *grins*

Phooey to the person who said they do not belong! In a cottage home, they DO belong!
I hate to see them locked away in a closet or cabinet. They are little pieces of art!
Your home is simply beautiful Cindy!

  12. Cindy your plates and saucers look incredible on your bedroom wall. I'm collecting plates and saucers too for my wall(s), probably in my bedroom. I also use saucers for soap dishes, paper clips on my desk, etc. and they are gorgeous. xoxo

  14. Plates are fine in any room you choose. They, to me too, are little snippets of art. Your news ones are so cute with the others. I rate your space 100 percent adorable, soothing, and beautiful. I have my grandmothers (both of them)' teacups, saucers, teapots, etc. in my bedroom. I'm posting a picture today on my blog so you can see them.

  17. I too love plates and I collect them as I find them. I have no rules, the plate just as to 'call me' and I buy it. In my bed room all around the top of the room, like other people place a wallpaper border, I have a border of plates. I love them. I also have 7 hung above my bed.
I have them in the kitchen hanging on walls etc. Several small plates I use as soap dishes in the bathrooms and I use a few as spoon rests when I cook. You can always use a pretty plate.

  24. I agree w/Becca as to your room looking like something from a magazine...and the look of plates on a wall...hanging up...anywhere...fabulous...they are works of art...and SHOULD be displayed...if you love em'...hang em'!! (Yikes sounds kind of like a sad western movie, eh???)...but you get my drift...I love what you've done...fab...fab!!

  25. Looks great! Especially liked the bowl with the yellow around it. Plates look good anywhere, I've noticed a lot of magazine's pictures showing them on bathroom walls.
